Artemis 2.0

posted Mar 12, 2013 21:34:01 by hancock.steven
I was wondering whether Artemis 2.0 will be available to existing owners in the same way previous updates have been. Or whether it will be a distinct new game, to be purchased separately. Has there been a decision/announcement?

My understanding is that it is just a patch to the game. Like how Team Fortress 2 Patches all the time. Think about what version of that game we must be on now with over three hundred patches.

I talked with Thom about this today and he is undecided. Artemis 2.0 will be a gigantic, ambitious update. To me it sounds like 2.0 will take several years of his life, but Thom is a super-human game programmer and I'm sure we can count on him to get it done quicker than that. Hearing him talk about the scope of 2.0's updates gives me chills!

In the mean time Artemis 1.702 is pretty awesome as it is, and should keep us having fun for months to come. Thom is aware that 1.702 still has a few bugs he needs to fix before beginning work on 2.0.
"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).

Wow. This is great. I just hope it comes out before Starcraft: Ghost.

Cool. Either way I would have no objections. The sheer number of man-hours of fun we've gotten out of this game is well worth a second purchase.

You aren't kidding. As soon as an Android version comes out several members of my crew are going to be doing a second purchase. One guy has both and iPad and an Android phone so he have it three times over.

I don't have a problem ponying up more money for 2.0; heck, if you do it on a head count basis, it's still less than $7 per player now (and I think I bought it back in the days when it was originally $60!).
I'm not a mad scientist. I'm an angry one. You'd be wise to fear the latter.

I know some of the most fun and hilarious nights I've had over the last 6 months or so have been getting a pile of people over and getting horribly drunk while playing this.

Thom released a list for 2.0 of things he plans to implement. He specifically stated it would be an update not a new purchase.
