I finally got around to making a video showing off the DMX setup I'm using.

Nice! I like the different sets of lights for different things. What lights are you using? The spots behind the desk and the laser under are really neat, what are the bar lights under the monitor?

These are the two lights behind the monitors for shields. Venue LED PAR 38's

This is the docking light strip in the middle.

The docking strip is controlled by this box.

Red alert! Off ebay. Search for DMX ball

Aah, nice! I've been thinking about picking up some other DMX controllers (like the one you're showing for the RGB strip), does it offset the address compared to the DMX address setting in the file?

Also, again, looks fantastic :)

Yes, it certainly does. DMX is from channel 1-512. Artemis considers it 0-511. So everything you do in the DMX file for Artemis needs to be 1 number less.

Not only that, but each light has multiple channels built in and what not so even though I have 4 lights with 2 of those lights (shields) doing the same thing, I still have 12 channels to address because the fixtures have different options. The red alert ball has like 6-7 channels because of the options regarding speed of the rotation, strobe effect, and motor direction.

THAT is super cool. Nicely done. Also loving your monitor setup!

Ha thanks. Wife doesn't understand the necessity for maximum desktop real estate! :)

Very nice job!
"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).

Alex, I am using equipment (Par can and light ball) similar to you, in terms of lighting, but I am using a USB DMX controller cable with XLR terminal. I have it working, kind of. What my problem is that I think something must be off. When I hit red alert I get no light. All systems normal is a regular flashing of RBG, Shields up is green and docking is Blue. Hits to the ship are quick light bursts. Is something not hooked or coded right for me? Your thoughts?
Thanks!

Alex, I am using the same light strobe ball for trial runs.... The Par Can is not hooked up yet. But I can only set it to postions 1-512. I read that artemis is always one less, so settings on lights should be set to one lower. The light strobe doesn't go to 0! What did you do to make it work?

Deane: Your DMX equipment needs to be set to one unit higher than the XML file.

If your XML file addresses 0/1/2 you set your light to 1/2/3.

Michael, using these basic instructions, which setting would acheive that do you think?

Hmmm... unlike my slimPARs, your first DMX channel is for strobe.

Try incrementing all of your values for each color by one (Red become 1, Green becomes 2, Blue becomes 3) then set your light to FUNCTION A-001. This should set your light to be strobe on ch-0 (not used) and the colors on 1/2/3.

Give it a try and let's see if it works!

When I say increment your colors I mean in the DMXCOMMANDS.XML file, by the way. Maybe just start with the running lights and shields so you can easily test it without going through the whole file.
