Features on ThomRobertson's todo list

posted Feb 04, 2013 23:01:07 by A.J.
I tried searching to no avail. Is there a list somewhere of the features that ThomRobertson wants to add to the game? A todo list if you will?

It would be nice to know if he already wants to center the science officer's zoom on the selected target, because if it is already on his todo list then I won't need to jump up and down and post to try to get it added. (As it is, it is quite obnoxious to zoom via iPad) Or if he's agreed that he would like to add a zoom in feature to the main screen tactical map, then I won't have to annoy anyone with posts about that either.

Having a list of things that ThomRobertson wants to add will stop a lot of people from making redundant requests for things that are already on the developer's mind.

I have never made my to-do list public, A.J. I know that other game developers have, and I hope it works for them.

My to-do list is huge, and 90% of it is generated from the community input on these forums. Veteran members of the community should be able to attest to how (over the last 2.5 years) I've listened to this community and changed the game as a direct result.

But if I published my list, I would be judged on the timely and accurate delivery of every item on the list, and be asked to defend every choice I made about what I did or didn't do this week. I feel such tension would push aside my muse, who I still want to listen to. So as an Artist, I would feel uncomfortable making my to-do list public.

And I don't feel anybody's requests are redundant. If one person asks for a feature, I'll think about it. If 10 people ask for the feature, I'll make sure it's high on the list. That's how it worked for Warp Inertia. If everybody but me wants a feature, I'll at least discuss my point of view with all of you, and try to come to a solution that pleases everyone.

This is perfectly understandable.

But to please us fans it would be nice to have kind of a developer blog that could reveal features and items that you have implemented in the new version and are happy enough with. I know that this would make us drool and you might get drowned in "When?" questions. But for most of us it will keep the spirit alive and have us plan for the future.

Please, think about it.

Thom believes in Valve-time. It'll be done when it's done and you'll learn about it then.

Blog style posts would be nice, short texts about what Thom is focusing on for the next update.
