Artemis IOS 1.701 is now submitted to Apple

posted Jan 18, 2013 00:29:49 by ThomRobertson
Artemis IOS 1.701 is now submitted to Apple. Unless they reject it for some weird reason, it'll probably be available in the next 7 days. Now Max Gaming is working hard on the Android version!

As much as I love the unofficial Android version that's been going around, I will buy the Android immediately.

I'm sure that getting 1.701 out the door must have been quite an enterprise.
I'm not a mad scientist. I'm an angry one. You'd be wise to fear the latter.

Question, how come the commercial company was chosen and not the group that has been making the unofficial version for the android?
You want this ship to be able to do what where?

The unofficial version has been created by a single developer by network packet sniffing and interpreting. Brilliantly done, mind you, but any official Android client is going to be built from the ground up in a completely different way. Plus, Thom now has a working relationship with these commercial developers.

@MarkBell
I understand the construction of the app, and that this official one would be more like the commercial one on the PC just like the IOS, I was Just asking so Thom could answer, as what you say I currently understand already.

1.701 is submitted to Apple. I just realised did I miss a PC update? I only have 1.70.

@kahulbane - Ah, none of that was clear from your original question.

@SigbjornSigmundarson - I think it's either a fun reference or a placeholder for an imminent bug release.

Is it possible (or will it eventually be possible) to mix stations between the PC and iOS versions? I was playing with a few people who don't have PCs (and don't want to get into windows emulation),but they DO have iPads. Especially for simple stations like captain's map or comms an iPad could work really well.

Jonathan, yes, the iOS version has always worked with the same-numbered PC version. For the mac people out there, Wineskin Winery works great for running Artemis.

That is wonderful news. Now the ultimate question: Will iOS version 1.701 be compatible with PC 1.70.

The 1.701 change is really just to fix that crash bug with the client erasing the ship name. So it's a tiny change, and shouldn't inhibit the two versions working together. But I will release PC 1.701 very soon, so moot point anyway.

An Android version is much sought after in my circle of friends. Could we receive an update on that in a few weeks? There is a surprisingly large number of Android supported tablets that would be gear for this!
