Newbie Question

posted Oct 18, 2012 00:18:56 by HamiltonComputer-Wargaming
Just came back to try out the demo.....looked at it when first released but thought about letting it develop a little more. Soooo we are back. Quick question must you have a dedicated server? We have 6 players with 6 machines. Does that mean we need 7 machine to play a full crew? I can't seem to see how to run it as a test with just one machine? Thanks guys for any help.

I believe you do need a dedicated server, and thus, will need another machine, or else one of you plays the ship's counselor.

We run my computer as the server and as a station all the time without lag, I might not recommend it for a laptop, but multiple instances of the game seem to jive just fine on my rig.

Now that I think about it, you are right. I have managed to play with two monitors before, running the main screen on one and throwing the other into an extended desktop. Just don't "full screen" and it should run fine.

Sorry about the wrong answer before.

I've also run it to on my own computer to test features with the main screen in the background (don't minimize it though!), so if you don't have an extra monitor than you can sacrifice the main screen.

To be honest though, one of the strange features of this game, is the more extra monitors you have, the better. :)

waitaminute... I just realized...

The game includes licenses for 6 computers. You're only supposed to have six computers for six players. The captain doesn't get a computer, and the server doesn't get a user. So its one computer for each player.

You're fine.

Ok on the demo then how do I play it. The only options I seems to get are just a server screen....How would I even try the demo out ? Hmmm strange. Is there a manual PDF in the directory?

Thanks

ps. Can I use paypal to buy a copy (assuming I can figure it out)

Try opening a second instance of the game on your machine, then selecting client, and connecting that way. For the server address use 'localhost'.

I too get the D3D error. I just ignore it, and the game seems to work fine.
