Problem with New Meshes

posted Oct 10, 2012 06:58:41 by ArpieBowman
For some reason, when it comes time to visually display (on the server computer) certain new meshes I created with DeleD and the Artemis Ship Generator, Artemis crashes. Is there some special tag I need to add to the .dxs file (I note that it seems to be an xml document)?

I'm trying to compare the .dxs files that work with those that don't, but I haven't found a significant difference, yet.

Normally this is a texture issue. Make sure all your textures are properly listed in the vesseldata.xml and are place in the proper places in the folder you are directing from the Vesseldata.xml

Already checked that, but thanks for replying.
(When I was first starting out, I did have this error on a shuttlecraft, though, so you're right to point it out. I'd accidentally specified its .png was in \models\ not
\textures\ - something I'm watching for -)

I've also double checked that all the vesselData.xml files are identical in each computer in the bridge network.

But it's still crashing! And, what's odd, it's doing it for the Klingon player ship from the Trek Mods, too. And I imported that as-is.

Here is another thing to look into. If you have a sound file associated with the ship. Say like contact ping if the ship is in range example 6000k. If the sound file is not in the mission folder or if it does not have the right extension like .ogg or .wav it will cause the game to crash as soon as it the player ship is in range of the other ship.

Nope. I'm running it right now without the associated sounds from the mod.
The minute the server screen is supposed to display the model, kee-rash.

It's weird.
The weirdest one that's crashing is the kca.dxs from the ST_TMP mod.
I've just now double checked and the paths are specified to the correct folder, the .pngs it names are present.

What's even weirder is that other models from the same mod are running just fine.
The fed ones are all showing up crystal clear.
I even managed to create a player-controlled shuttlecraft and it's flying around just fine. (Well, flew, right up until the kca was supposed to appear.)

I just noticed something: I opened it up and looked at it with DeleD and it produced something with a .~dxs suffix (which is odd, because there's the file with the .dxs suffix unaltered in the directory - and when I shut it down, there's still the .~dxs ...clone? remaining), which is weird.
I wonder if maybe something's wrong with my copy of DeleD

That might be the problem if the mesh in the folder is a ~dxs it will cause the game to crash. ~dxs is normally cause when you copy a new version of the same item is something like a back up file. But if artemis reads it in the game it like the file doesn't exists and will cause the game to crash.

There is nothing wrong with your DeleD program. This is a back up or template type file. Just make sure that when you copy the new .dxs file that it is not the back up ~dxs file and it should work for you just fine.

Gosh, I hope that's not it. I try to be very careful about filenames and suffixes, but I'll go over everything with a fine-tooth comb to make sure.

When I built the BSG Mod I accidentally copy the ~dxs file a copy of times and it crashed the game but it is not that big of deal it happens. But I think that what makes it interesting at times. I love to trouble shoot things like this. I am working a a mission for artemis right now that has several systems that you can travel via a jump gate. And just had to trouble shoot the last strings I added to the mission to get it too work. It turn Out to be a sound file that I forgot to correct LOL.
