Map Table

posted Sep 27, 2012 15:02:52 by Brunayla
Hello all,

Has anyone thought of making a captain's map table. Sort of like the plotting table from battlestar? I made map projection table for RPG's and plan to use it this weekend for the privet game I will be running. I will take some pictures and post then when I can. There are may ways of making the map table. You could also make it interactive with wii motes (Wii mote whiteboard).

Here is an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFVXfsd4Nao

I like that one as well but I do not have the space for it.

A map table is a neat idea. I want one now.

There's a pretty good tutorial on how to make one that uses a smaller footprint here. I played around with building one out of a cardboard box and some lexan last summer, and sorta got it working, but then I moved and I needed the box :).
I'm not a mad scientist. I'm an angry one. You'd be wise to fear the latter.

We use an old flat front CRT I have hanging around and sat it face up as a navigation table. Science has a protractor and ruler, and writes on the bad boy with dry erase marker. It works pretty well.

The dry erase is a good idea. Cool

The one that Cmdr Brandr linked to is the table that my RPG group uses. One of the guys in the group built it. We take it to all the Memphis Conventions. We haven't tried it with Artemis yet but we are seriously thinking about it.

greylond, Cmdr Brandr and I have run Artemis at most the Memphis conventions. We've seen your group's setup at the Cons. Usually our setup has been not too far from the rear projection table. We'll be at ShadowCon again in January. If you're group's going to be there and wanting to try it out, I'm sure we can hook it up and give it a go.

We could even hook them in to the mumble server and have them coordinate behavior between the two active ships.

I'll have to ask the table owner, Brian. He usually runs most of his games on it and then he has to pack out and leave Sat Night at Midnight.

Bad news, Brian wasn't planning on bring the table. He's not running in RPGs at ShadowCon. He's only running Mongoose Call to Arms: Star Fleet this time.

Cool on that. Maybe I can shake myself loose this time to play a game with you guys.
