** NOW READY ** New Mission Script "Party Crashers" Written by a Team at Notacon

posted Apr 11, 2012 16:11:36 by Mike_Substelny
Update: "Party Crashers" has been updated for Artemis 1.651! It has been playtested by a full crew and is ready to play now!

Here is the link to my download website: Click here to download "Party Crashers" now! It's a challenging, fully voiced adventure for a full crew of six. Good luck!

Friday April 13th at Notacon I ran a six hour workshop on "Interactive Storytelling Using Artemis SBS." Presented with Thom's assistance and blessing, that hands-on session resulted in an actual playable Artemis adventure called "Party Crashers."

Before the workshop I didn't know the title of the adventure. I didn't know the characters. I didn't know the plot. All of those details were created by workshop participants at the con. It took the whole weekend instead of just six hours, but in the end we had a brand new mission script, complete with voice acting and custom sound effects!

Below you see the updates I posted during the con. It was challenging, hard work but I learned a lot and I think all the participants did, too.

"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).

UPDATE: We finished writing "Party Crashers" Saturday night. A volunteer crew at Notacon beta-tested it and found at least two serious bugs. Now Notacon is over and the "Party Crashers" team has gone home. Nevertheless I believe that I can fix those bugs by myself. The mission will be published as soon as I figure out those problems.

My hope is that some of the "Party Crashers" team now has the mission scripting bug and we will see more high quality mission scripts soon.

Update: "Party Crashers" is up and running! Download it here! It was tested once by a full crew and they found some bugs. I believe the bugs are now fixed, but it has not been tested. If you find bugs please tell me and I will fix them.

Otherwise the team of writers, programmers, and voice actors that developed "Party Crashers" would love your feedback. Please let us know what you think.

The scripting crew at Notacon created "Party Crashers" after playing "Havoc in the Hamak Sector" which uses highly amplified and intentionally distorted voices. The Notacon crew opted for clear, undistorted voices.

They read these forums and they would like your opinions of their production style.

Froggy, Notacon's organizer, mentioned the Artemis workshop that created "Party Crashers" in a slashdot interview yesterday. In fact I think he really loved it. You can play the interview here. The Artemis mention starts at about 7:30.

Maybe we'll arrange to create a new mission script every year at Notacon.

We played the mission this weekend with 3 people. I've got video of it that I will upload to YouTube, once edited.

Thanks, kwadroke. Did your crew have any feedback for the team that wrote this mission?

Sorry it's taking so long: here's video from failed attempt #1: http://youtu.be/SXpZVbb-iT8
I've got 2 more attempts I need to edit & upload.

It's a pretty cool mission. We're going to be playing it at Ark-Con this weekend, this time with a full crew.

Have you tried it with Artemis 1.65? It might be too hard.
