Sensor range

posted Dec 16, 2011 08:04:11 by 5th_Wall_Gaming
I'm finishing up the script for this saturday and I was playing with the settings in the artemis.ini file for sensor ranges. I reduced the players sensor range to 15000, but when I run the script, he can see 97k out.

Why doesn't it accept the sensor range and can anyone suggest a quick fix by tomorrow afternoon? :)

I haven't tried messing with sensor ranges yet, but my guess would be that the value you changed wasn't an absolute, but a multiplier. So it was 15000 times the value listed in the .ini file. I'd try setting the value in the script to something like 0.3 and see what happens.

No.. I changed it from 50000 in the artemis.ini file to 15000. I removed all starbases thinking perhaps they were augmenting my sensors. Nope. No stations.. The script shows a ship 107k away.

Is there a way to set sensor power in the script that I'm just not seeing?

i was actually wondering about sensors overall as well (using 1.55)

my question was more basic than even the script, the server sensor setting.

i can't seem to get much in the way of a war fog...

I found that if you put it to low, then it works ok (with some custom settings to the ranges in the ini file). Note that I think starbases do "extend" your sensor data in the LRS.

Oh sorry, I didn't read your post well enough. That's what happens when I go online first thing in the morning. :p

Okay, stupid question time; Did you remember to select something other than "Unlimited" for the sensor range on the server setup screen?

That's just it.. When I select a script, everything but the top 2 selections goes grey and I can't change them.

Bug Report:

Apparently, the settings DO set, but they are grey when a script is selected (usually meaning that they are not active or taken into account).

They should be changeable when a script is selected if they work in the script.

Yes, I've noted that, 5th. I'll have it fixed in the next release.
