Mission School

posted Aug 23, 2011 21:12:43 by KeithHigdon
The ability to develop missions is one of the more powerful and useful features in Artemis. It's also one of the most under-used features. Which is a real shame because I believe it's one of those things that will maintain the game's appeal over the long haul.

I think a lot of people (including myself) look at the Mission Script and think, "hey, that doesn't look too bad", but once they actually get started it's a little more overwhelming than it first appears.

Now, we've got some experienced scripters here on the boards. We've also got people with great writing and story telling ability. Given that, I think it might be fun to write a mission as a group here on the boards. We could go through the whole process together. Figure out the plot, plan the events, write the mission file, and do the testing. When we're done we'd have a fully functional mission to add to the catalog.

So what do you say? Anybody interested in giving it a shot?

Thanks Mike,
it automatically goes to Artemis
,I see. Plus, I know getting crews together is tough. I get a few then someone gets a new job or changes shifts, and so on. Anctious to see Truth/Consiquences. I also want to play some BvB but people don't seem to want to take advantage of one of the coolest game experiences out there. It would be great to pit one crews skill against another. "The ultimate chess match", even people who think science needs more to do should play with sensors to very weak. It opens up a different experience. I myself could go for even a weaker setting. I like the thrill of the hunt. It would be great to have a 3 on 3 match with 1 base each. 2 ships could attack other base and 1 stay to defend or vice versa. I'm sure in the very near future this game will really take off.

Not to poke a sleeping thread, but is this still in the works? I'm brand new to this. (Haven't even fired it up yet as I am still at work) But this looked like an interesting project.

I think this is a very do-able project. I can contribute a lot of content, but I would like to have Thom's blessing first. If the scripting system is going to change soon then the "Mission School" should be built to include the changes(s).
"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).
