Play the sound file.. NOW!!

posted Jul 26, 2011 17:55:34 by 5th_Wall_Gaming
I'd appreciate a way in mission scripting for a sound file to play WITHOUT the comm officers consent.

Perhaps include a new flag on the XML.

<incoming_message from="Unknown" mediaType="0" fileName="ArmyOfDoom.ogg"/>

Becomes

<incoming_message from="Unknown" mediaType="0" fileName="ArmyOfDoom.ogg" OverrideCom="1"/>

where it plays no matter what and

<incoming_message from="Unknown" mediaType="0" fileName="ArmyOfDoom.ogg" OverrideCom="0"/>

Where it's the standard button.

This will allow us to play custom sounds like an alien who can communicate directly with peoples minds or custom explosions that don't sound quite right and such. :)

That is a good idea. Would have come in handy in my last mission script.
A vital mission, impossible odds and a ruthless enemy, what more could we ask for?

Wonderful! My mission scripts could be a lot more exciting with some special sound effects - - - and maybe some visual effects. :)
"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).
