Neutral ships

posted Jul 12, 2011 16:41:17 by Martok42
I have a couple questions, are they truly neutral? As in, I can shoot them, or not shoot them, depending on the captains choice? If not, and I would guess not, is there a way to accomplish such a thing?

Or can you turn neutral into enemy/freindly depending on something you do?

Furthermore, is there a way to get a Warp like effect? I would like to have a ship warp away, then later warp in again.

I am completely new to coding and scripting, so I could use some assistance...

Martok, currently there's no way for you (the player) to target a neutral ship, and no AI code for them to attack you. In the future this will definitely change, but probably not for V1.50.

You CAN adjust their throttle and turn rates to be more "warp-like", in a script.

Ah, thank you. I got some work arounds for them to attack you... I think... Provided I coded it correctly.

Excellent, I will play around with script and see what I can do for warp.

EDIT: Actually, on more question:

Is the only way to make a ship appear to leave the map to destroy it?

EDIT EDIT: Ok, another question, neutrals can be nuked to death right? So they can be killed if the mission calls for it?

I've nuked neutrals by accident. I assume it works if you do it intentionally.

Ah, good to know. Then this mission should be very interesting...

I've actually got a code segment that gives neutral ships a temporary warp drive. I'll have to dig it out of my mission, but it should work with some modifications.

(We should start a code-sharing thread or something)

I actually just tore a warp segment from your mission, because I remembered you had one in there...

And Martok, the mission script I'm working on called "Truce or Consequences" allows Artemis to fight on the side of the Skaraans and destroy Earth ships. The script should be published for you to study by Sunday.

That, is very cool...

But I just tried to nuke a neutral, it doesn't work. The nuke doesn't go boom. Maybe I could just make it an enemy, but then the player could just kill it at any time, and it would attack you and it would be a whole big mess...

Right now nuke terminal homing does not track neutrals. That's why it didn't go boom. I'll look into making it possible to attack neutrals in the future.

Any one have a sample of code making a neutral or enemy go to warp-like speeds? I tried setting topSpeed and throttle to lots of different numbers and nothing seemed to change.

Arg. Ok, well then I will make it an enemy, and tell the player not to kill it, unless absolutely necessary. I think that will give the desired effect...
