"Havoc in the Hamak Sector" 1.70 IS WORKING!!! (mostly)

posted Jun 27, 2011 03:25:49 by Mike_Substelny

Update: "Havoc in the Hamak Sector" is working again!

PLAYER TROUBLESHOOTING: As with most mission scripts, many features will not work if you rename your ship anything other than Artemis. See the Read Me file for details.

Here it is, the original classic mission with an all-new cast playing the characters you know and love . . . and hate.

These free missions are available to download from my website my website .

Here is the writeup blurb:

Artemis is assigned to investigate strange tachyon readings from the gigantic Hamak Nebula. Along the way they meet Admiral Weeks, a pennypinching profiteer who wants to stay as far as possible from the front lines, and Captain Amelia Haynes, a blood-and-guts warrior who is bored with science missions and wants to prove herself in combat. But the nebula's eerie glow hides a terrible secret that could change the course of the war. There is plenty of action to keep your full crew busy as Artemis races solve the mystery before the Torgoth flag is flying over Earth.

BE SURE THAT EVERY STATION HAS A COPY OF THE MISSION FOLDER UNZIPPED UNDER MISSIONS.

"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).

Awesome! Looking forward to checking it out, Mike!
I'm not a mad scientist. I'm an angry one. You'd be wise to fear the latter.

Incidentally, "Havoc in the Hamak Sector" offers a LOT for Communications, Science, and Engineering to do. Don't try it with 3-4 players. You'll want six experienced players for this one.

Wow, sounds very cool. We might have a full crew this weekend, so maybe we'll get to try it out.

Thanks, Clayton.

Did the starship Warsaw behave correctly? When we playtested "Havoc in the Hamak Sector" the Warsaw could not see any enemy ships. I'm trying to determine whether or not I've found an Artemis bug. Did Warsaw behave correctly for you?

Mike, Futile (Charlie & Chris) I read somewhere what you called the subsectors but I don't remember what it was exactly. I wanted to be on the same "page" with you?

I was originally calling them "subsectors," but the word was too long in my Comms texts so I started calling them "grids."

As for sectors themselves, I am alternating between names and numbers, depending on the scenario. This is consistent with Star Trek, which gave us Sector Z6 ("Balance of Terror"), Sector 5 (STIV:TVH) as well as the Mutara Sector (STII:TWOK) and the Bajor Sector (ST:DS9). If there is something significant in the sector it gets a name, otherwise just a number. The numbering system is a bit of a free for all.

Mike ... he did indeed, kicking @$$ & taking names he was ... For some reason, we couldn't get Shakedown to work properly? How are you keeping your allies in the map ... Ours just fight one or two enemies & leave ... Argh!

Thanks, Clayton. I made a minor miscalculation with starship Warsaw, assuming neutral ships could see inside a nebula as well as Artemis can. But that problem will be fixed shortly, giving Comms even more work to do!

There was a window of about five days when I had an error in Shakedown. The folder name had the misspelling Skakedown instead of Shakedown. Thom pointed it out to me and now I have fixed the misspelling. You can either rename your folder or re-download the file and the Shakedown mission will work.

Clayton, in the opening part of "Havok in the Hamak Sector" no one will accept orders from your Comms officer. The script gives all neutral ships a destination. In the latter part of the mission Warsaw is the only ally fighting. She will do whatever your Comms officer says to do, including leave the map forever.

Mike ... I meant keeping allies on any Map ... for scripting, not in your Missions they worked fine, except that mislabel ...

Clayton, do you have your neutral ships accept Comms orders? If so, then if they leave the map it is the fault of the Comms officer, not the script writer.

If they do not accept Comms orders, then you need to give them targets such as stations, enemy ships, waypoints in space, etc.

The audio version of "Havoc in the Hamak Sector" is done and updated for Artemis 1.5! I will upload it to my website on Friday, July 22. I hope someone can play it this weekend.
